In civil stream you have lots of sub branches. one can expect AU or any govt colleges with this score.
in tancet 2010 even candidates who scored 32 got admission in civil branches

CEG will give you more exposure than PSG.
But placement wise comparing, many students claiming PSG is good in placements than AU

This booklet list all the colleges having ME/MTech courses.

You have large possibilities to get GCT and other govt colleges.
With this rank you can easily get some big private Colleges such as SSN,MEPCO

If you have offer from IT industry,

If you want to be your career in IT industry
then it is wise to earn 2 year experience than your PG degree.
Experience gives you more package than your PG degree.
In IT industry PG and UG degree candidates always treated in a same manner.

If you are from circuit branches, chances are less.
If you are from civil mechanical related branches, chances are high

@reeni, your rank is 517 in this precouncelling rank list na?, no large chnge in this is expected for higher rank. eventhough you can get easily in govt colleges i think. PSG or SSN is sure for you. if you are gate qulified apply in that category also. you can get govt colleges under gate category also. if so you will get stipend too. wel done reeni, good luck

@i dont know how much gate marks will get you into annu univ camous or govt colleges for your branches. if you are gate qualifies i.e, if you got mark above cutoff, you can try under gate category and you will get stipend too

If you have 25+ marks in gate, you can try in gate category. There wont be much competition in gate category. Last year gate category counseling last for only one day. But scheduled for two days. PSG and GCT gives preference to gate category. Last year 75% of the seat from these colleges allocated to gate category.

It is not possible to know the departments even after the release of tanca rank list .
But we may guess like these.
Most of the candidates from the 5 major departments ece,eee,mech,civil,cse. From these assumptions we may conclude yourrank/5 candidates in before your rank.
my gate score is 355.. gate rank is 7500 and tancet rank is 517...applying under which category (gate or non-gate) gives me more chance to get into a good college (private or government)???? my branch is EEE... i thought my gate score is not good enough to get into a government college in TN...

yea you are right.
In tancet 2010, only 60 candidates scored above 50 marks.
but in Tancet 2011,300 students scored above 50 marks.
But these numbers may change in tanca rank list. Because everyone prefers jobs than higher studies.
We can predict only if we knows the following
seat allocation in each departments,
seat allocation for each category(oc,bc,...),
community rank,
department rank.
Surely u will get any one of these ceg,mit,psg.

I think you did not get my point.
only 20 or 25 seats are available for ME in each course.
We did not know how many seats reserved for gate category student and Tancet students.
Top level colleges will give equal importance to the gate and tancet category.
E&I related branches in CEG + MIT is above 7. so you have large possibilities to get into these colleges.

in ceg there are 13 courses related to eie.. In mit it is 4 courses related to eie.. So totally 17 courses.. Each course contain min 18 seats..

You can easily get leading private colleges with your mark and your category.
