Admission through gate is better.
you will get stipend every month (Rs5000 to 8000).
added benefit is your semester fees will be lesser(Rs 3000 to 5000) than tancet category student.
if you got admission in CEG through gate category,you can get ME degree without spending anything from your purse.

You have large probabilities to get PSG and GCt.
all courses in CEG & psg is good.
Requirement for ME candidates in major companies is very less than BE candidates. so its hard to say about placements.

@aiswarya ,tanca will send only overall rank and your comm rank and it wont sent dept wise rank as many courses can be opted by many depts..

As far as i gone through many blogs n forumz i infer de followin for ECE,CSE/IT,EEE n Mechanical.
last yr 42 in bc got psg.
dis yr ece,cse/it students rocked in de exam.
so dis yr 46 is equal to last yr 42.
I dont knw anything abt OC,SC n ST
for bc, approx. there are 220 seats in govt.col n aided.
for mbc 130
overall rank within 2500 would definitely get govt. n aided clgs.
if rank is 2500, n if he is a bc then his community rank would b 1250 n dept rank would be 220
if rank is 2500, n if he is a mbc then his community rank would b 550 n dept rank would be 130

I warn everyone that only ceg,mit n psg does 50 % placement for pg students.
choose govt. clg other than those mentiond above 1nly if u r only interested in teaching go for M.E
coz getting job after M.E is twice hard than gettin job after ug.
Practcally companies alwayz prefer low paid workers such as diploma (wid experience) n @most b.e graduates.They hesitate to pay u much as u would demand more at some point f time as u r masters.

hi, the college details book says - nil seats for non-gate (tancet)students in psg, cit. then hw come people are saying upto 42 last year got in psg? can u clarify?
@ adi : i gathered details frm my lecturers who did their pg in ceg recently and my seniors in psg n thyiagarajar.
@ rishi : this year only psg,cit surrendered all seats exccept some branches to GATE....last year most of the branches had TANCET seats :)
even if u r offered placement on campus in other govt colleges,tat would b a software firm...a strong sayin frm a thyiagarajar alumni :)

and one more blunder i came to knw is...., since industrial engg is opened for all branches CSE/IT students get into it compromising that they r doin ME in gvt clg.
Industrial engg. is 75 % mechanical based n ppl frm other depts would feel wasting two years after joining.

1. Guys with CORE-COMPANIES dream ll intelligently move to IITs & BIT.
2. Guys with TEACHING dream in TN ll get decent colleges.
guys remember scoring high in TANCET is very EASY n job opportunities for PG candi. from Anna univ & Affli. clgs is very TOUGH. ALL THE BEST GUYS :) WISH U ALL SUCCESS :)

In CEG, usually software firms ll recruit B.E guys.If they havent get enough guys in B.E as expected they ll call M.E students and ll pick to the count they require based on ur UG score, M.E project,Papers submitted and GPA.
If u overcome all hurdles and get placed with ur knwledge n LUCK (main role), u wont b positioned in higher posts in the cmpny.u too ll b in same cadre as ur B.E colleagues,same salary.After some years,they ll try flush u out by indirect compulsion / pressure frm ur boss to shift to another cmpny as they would fear as u might demand for higher pay n grade with ur PG qualification.
they jus need cheap human labor with fresh energtic mind.coz experienced minds ll question WHY whereas freshers WONT :)
my suggestion is do courses lyk SUN certification, sftware testing,or in trec-step(tiruchi) not to waste time n improve urself to job market nedxt year :) ALL THE BEST :)

I have a doubt ..... why in colleges like PSG & CIT no seats has been allotted for Non-gate category? but in previous years students have joined in that college through tancet.
I came to know about many things from you two... adi and SIddhartha Dhanvantri.Very nice conversation. you both are correct. After PG placement is little rare. I just dont know lot for software courses. but for Core branches like Civil , mech ect., they have good scope after M.E only for those who have extrodinary technical skills. After PG lecture job is easily got as you two said. For PG Students the companies expect lot of technical skills from students.Nowadays i see lot of advertisements for "Fire and Safety management"(Certificate Course). Is that a good option for students? What about the scope of that course?

if u look at the fee structure of anna university departments of tiruchi, etc., they are not economical…fees 12000 onlu…but see the other fees payable every year nearly 20000…on whole comparing this good private colleges r better than these as they are well established n meet same expenses… :)
